Over the past quarter, the ICSD Africa Branch has continued to advance dialogue and collaboration on social development across the continent.
On 25 March 2026, the Branch hosted its first webinar of the year, featuring Prof. Antoinette Lombard, President of the International Association of Schools of Social Work and an ICSD member. Prof. Lombard shared reflections on the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar, offering insights into renewed global commitments to poverty eradication, social justice and inclusive development. The webinar was chaired by Dr. Khanya Ndhlovu of the Centre for Social Development in Africa and created a platform for African scholars and practitioners to connect with global debates shaping the future of social development.
Preparations are also well underway for the Africa Branch Colloquium, scheduled for 24–25 June 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya. Under the theme “African Solutions to Achieving the Vision of the Doha Political Declaration”, the colloquium will foster critical dialogue and showcase innovative Africa-centred strategies. Key thematic areas include poverty eradication, decent work, social integration and addressing human capital loss in Africa. Registration is open…
The event will feature keynote addresses, plenary sessions and parallel panels, with participation from academics, practitioners, policymakers and postgraduate students. The colloquium will be held in partnership with the Joint Social Work Conference, underscoring the Africa Branch’s commitment to connecting regional initiatives with international networks and ensuring that African voices and solutions remain central to advancing the vision of the Doha Declaration.
Through these activities, the Africa Branch continues to build momentum, expand membership and create opportunities for collaboration across Africa and beyond.
