Call for abstracts opens for ICSD European Branch conference in Assisi

The ICSD European Branch has opened its call for abstracts for its next conference, taking place in Assisi, Italy, from 4–7 June 2027 under the working theme “Building the Peace”.

Against a global backdrop of war, military escalation and growing insecurity, the conference will explore the relationship between peace and social development. It will bring together perspectives from across disciplines to consider how peace can be built and sustained through research, policy and practice.

Submissions are invited around three key questions:

  1. What do we mean by peace? Exploring peace beyond the absence of war, including its connections to wellbeing, social justice, human rights and social development.
  2. How can social development contribute to peace? Examining the role of solidarity, social welfare, shared values and responses to challenges such as displacement, conflict and environmental pressures.
  3. How can social policy and practice change to promote peace? Identifying practical innovations, institutional reforms and actions that support peaceful societies.

The call welcomes contributions from social development scholars, social workers, other social scientists, philosophers, humanists, religious thinkers, artists, activists, practitioners and policymakers.
