We are pleased to invite you to attend the 21st Annual Helen Joseph Memorial Lecture, hosted by the Centre for Social Development in Africa (CSDA), University of Johannesburg, an ICSD institutional member.

This year’s lecture is particularly timely as the global social development community works to advance the commitments of the Second World Summit for Social Development, including strengthening the global care agenda and promoting gender equality.

Professor Leila Patel, founding Director of the CSDA and President of ICSD, will present a lecture entitled South African Women’s Movements and the Care Agenda: Achievements, Broken Promises, and the Road to Transformative Gender and Equitable Care Policies. The lecture considers the South African case of how women’s movements have shaped the country’s gender and care policies, examine the gaps that remain, and consider pathways towards more equitable and transformative care systems.

We look forward to welcoming ICSD members, partners and colleagues to this important discussion.
